Lura & James | Wormsloe Historic Site Wedding
Lura and James reached out to me last spring to tell me about how they were to be wed in the fall. They fell in love with beautiful Wormsloe Historic Site, a southern plantation located just outside the heart of Savannah, known for its beautiful driveway lined with oaks with Spanish moss hanging from the trees. After hiring me as their photographer, they collaborated with Design Studio South to create a beautiful wedding day.
Lura wore a stunning Watters dress and held a colorful bouquet created by Urban Poppy. James wore a navy suit, which paired beautifully with the scenery. Lura and James celebrated alongside 20 of their closest family and friends and did not have a bridal party except for their maid of honor, and best woman who stood at their sides.
The pair met during high school, during the annual play that was put on every year. During the play, the two were randomly paired together as dance partners and a friendship soon formed. Afterwards, they found themselves working together at their local grocery store. In 2008, they decided to pursue one another and from there, the rest is history.
From Alysse of Design Studio South…
“Lura + James knew from the start that they wanted their wedding to be intimate, sweet, and romantic and it was just that. They were able to keep their guest count small at around 30 guests and picked some of Savannah’s most charming venues for each of their events. The bride and groom selected a romantic and soft color palette of cream, sky, peach, dusty rose, French blue, and gold. On their wedding day, guests gathered under the lush avenue of oaks at Wormsloe Plantation to witness the two exchange vows. After the ceremony ended, a vintage car arrived to whisk the two away for some additional photos and their reception. The reception venue, Cohen’s Retreat has an incredibly beautiful, artistic, creative design to it and the couple’s décor simply enhanced that. The soft, romantic colors were balanced with some touches of vintage mod that the bride was drawn to. As their escort card, each guest was given a hexagon marble coaster with their name penned across it. Other touches of the vintage mod style could be found in the reception table linens, geometric candle and floral arrangement holders, as well as the table numbers that peaked out from the lush, romantic blooms. Guests enjoyed the party and chatted the night away. It was a true gathering of those that love the bride and groom most!”
